Tie the SHOE!

How do children learn to tie their shoes?

I’m not sure but I still avoid buying my child shoes with ties.

Perhaps we ought to start by stringing the laces – it’s not easy at all for little hands. Print out the shoe template from here.  Glue it on cardboard to make it more durable (I used a piece of cereal box). Cut it out and let the child color it. Then cut away the holes, making sure they are big enough.  Thread an old shoelace into the first two holes and show the kid how to continue. Leave him to learn by trial and error. When he knows how to thread the shoelaces, you can teach him to tie them. It’s not easy, as you’ll see.

Even young children must engage in activities that develop the fine motor skills. Threading and tying shoelaces is one of them.
